When I was a kid in the 1970's I had a teacher
who was wonderful probably one of the best
teachers I ever had in my life. Sometimes
she would take her LP's into the class room
she had a passion for a singer named "Cat
Stevens" and she introduced us to him.
She played us his music and from then on he
always had a special place in my heart. Today
I play his music for my children and it's
great to hear my two year old singing along
to "Moonshadow" and "Wild World"
!!!!

your site brings back lots of memories. those
of us who grew up in the same era as 'Cat'
will always appreciate the mark he left in
the grand tradition of the balladeros.
although i drew completely different spiritual
conclusions, and my faith rests in Jesus the
Messiah, i appreciate any man who makes public
his quest for real answers to real questions.
Cat was willing to share with us his loves,
his frustrations, and his questions. I see
in him a very deep-feeling individual.
i am still a performing guitarist, writing
Christian Contemporary pieces. Cat established
in my own music that love for simple story
telling, excellent guitar overlays and turnaround
signatures, and moving melody/lyrical blending
so characteristic of his craft.
The highest compliment i receive is when someone
stops me after a performance and says "man,
you reminded me of Cat Stevens!"
I am indebted to you, Cat, and will be the
first to call you "friend" and "fellow"
no matter how we may differ spiritually.
As Cat once wrote: "I listen to the words,
to the words of my soul . . . "Where
it takes me, well i think only God really
knows . . . "

Hi:
I just came upon your site by accident. I
was looking for some information about Berkeley,
California and my search turned up the 1971
Concert at the Berkely Community theater.
I was at that concert and it was incredible.
Just Cat Stevens, Alun Davies, his drummer
and, I believe, a bass player. A few years
later I saw him again and he had several more
musicians and "effects." These extra
pieces actually took away from the music rather
than enhancing it.
I grew up in San Francisco with Cat Stevens,
James Taylor, The Beatles, Gordon Lightfoot,
Bob Dylan, Simon & Garfunkel and later,
Crosby, Still & Nash and The Eagles.
Perhaps only the Beatles had as much influence
on me musically and spiritually as did Cat
Stevens. To this day, I play his music frequently,
both his records and "live" on my
guitar. My children (ages 14 and 22) are great
fans of his music and what he stood for.
I was wonderful finding your site and briefly
re-living that period of my life. It was a
joyous time. Keep up the great work. I'm sure
I'll visit again soon.
Excuse me now, I feel compelled to get my
guitar out and play "Father & Son."

70's. Your songs have always had hidden messages.
I still listen to your music on a weekly bases.

I have been a Cat Stevens fan since the mid
70s. I met him twice in 1982 and have several
letters he wrote to me about his interest
in Islam.
Over the years I have collected all of Cat's
music though always found it frustrating how
little there seemed to have been written about
him - that is until the internet arrived and
excellent sites such as your own.
I derive a lot of pleasure from listening
to Cat's music - each song evokes special
memories. It's great to know there are still
a lot of fans out there and also good to see
that Yusuf's previous reaction against his
music has softened, Something that good can
never be bad.
