When I was a teen growing up my living situation was extreamly dificut and abusive, my only escape from it all was the music but not just music, music with meaning. I remember the first time I listened to Cat Stevens (tea for a tillerman), I was captured by each and every song on the album. At that time I had a guitar teacher who took special intrest in my ear for music for Christmas he bought me a Stereo and the Tea for a tillerman album. He also asked me more then once "hows your home life doing? how did you cut yourself this time etc. I wanted so bad to let loose and tell this teacher of the extream abuse happening to me & my brother, but held back until I heard Cat Stevens song "Can't keep it in" his lyrics made sense to me, the power he realese when he sings the song, needless to say I told my guitar teacher what was going on at the home front, next thing I knew he was like a big brother to me, picking me up taking me to movies and we became very good friends I know in this time period he reported the abuse but in the 70s seemed like no one cared, for my 17th birthday Dave ( gutar teacher) took me to see Cat Stevens! It was at the forum I sat right next to a house speaker and was able to hear every word he sang! Hat's off to Cat Stevens! As far as his religious beliefs? we all have the right to our own and no man or woman should judge! I never paid attention to the smuck that was going on with that! I knew and know one thing!
