An
Other Cup CD Review:
Cat Stevens/Yusuf Islam fan,
Waleed Arafa writes "When
I learnt that Campus's new issue revolves around
Music I had a sudden rush of notes playing my mind.
I thought of writing about Music in the Cosmos;
pure rhythms flowing in the limitless universes
around us, as well as those that exist within us.
Galactic sound waves riding wildly in x dimension,
escaping traps set by curious scientists eager to
harness them to explosive and expanding realities,
as well as microscopic symphonies implosively orchestrated
every other second inside every single living cell
of our bodies, beautifully trying to lead us out
of our growing deafness to the Truth!" But
instead he wrote about Yusuf Islam newest release.

George
Brown's Bio has been placed in Ohio Music Library
and Sound Recordings Archives! I'd
like to report that a copy of George Brown's new book,
Cat
Stevens - The Complete Illustrated Biography and Discography,
has found a home in (and will soon appear in the catalog
of) one of Ohio's esteemed special collection libraries:
"The Music Library and Sound Recordings Archives"
of Bowling Green State University, for music researchers
and aficionados to enjoy. Also the "The
Complete Illustrated Biography and Discography"
is the only Cat Stevens biography known to exist in
any of the libraries in the state, it probably the
only copy of George's book in any library in the US!
So this is a great honor for George. http://www.bgsu.edu/colleges/library/music/muscoll1.html
On
a side note, I think it's safe to mention that "it's
been rumored that "The
Complete Illustrated Biography and Discography"
will be nominated for an ARSC (Association for Recorded
Sound Collections) award in 2007. (see http://www.arsc-audio.org/awards.html
for this year's finalists. Works are judged in part
by "outstanding writing and research about recorded
sound."
Congratulations
George!

Fortunes
Forum Concert:
As many
of you know by now, Yusuf Islam performed at the September
25th, Fortunes Forum Benefit Concert in front of such
celebrities as former President Bill Clinton, actor
Michael Douglas, and Richard Branson to mention a few.
I've heard that his set was half an hour long It contained
a few new songs from his CD 'An Other Cup' along with
some older more well known and loved songs, such as
'Peace Train'. As a treat Majicat user Eduardo,
'monabonejakon,' has presented us with this video
of Yusuf singing 'Peace Trai'n at the charity event.
Yusuf still has charisma up on stage. Here is a terrific

Exciting
Video:
Linda Ronstadt video
from the Moon and Star Concert:
In
1976 Linda Ronstadt was one of only two guest stars
on the rare Cat Stevens television concert on ABC's
'Moon and Star', In Concert series. The TV concert played
once in November 1973 and repeated once in the spring
of 1974, it then disappeared from sight into the hidden
vaults of ABC. Well, it has come to our attention via
Majicat message board user ronstadtfanaz, that
a video of this memorable moment in time has been placed
on youtube. This is the first time since 1973 that I
have seen a video of this fabulous cover of "The
First Cut Is The Deepest". And may I add, it is,
in my opinion, the 'best' cover of 'The First Cut is
the Deepest'. This video is pristine condition, unlike
most of the bootlegs that have been located of the concert.
After
you watch this wonderful video, make sure to rate it..
Let's give this video our full support.

Here
are a few of the reviews of the video from the users
here on Majicat;
"Thank
you so much for this. I can't believe how CLEAR the
picture is.... never saw a version of the Moon &
Star of that quality"
"She
is such a doll. I love her rendition of First Cut is
the Deepest. My opinion"
"What
memories. Now if only we can preserve that memory and
get the entire show on DVD"
"What
a fabulous video!!! Fantastic!! I remember finally finding
a copy of the audio of this song and being ecstatic
then, but this even beat that feeling. Linda's cover
is definitely the BEST cover ever of The First Cut"
"it's
the best cover of that song and she was so cute, loved
the curtsy too, and did you see how she went 'sheeeeew!"
and wiped her forhead after her last note? funny! "

Yusuf
Islam Readying New Pop Album March 17, 2006, 11:59 PM ET
Melinda Newman, Austin, Texas
Yusuf Islam, the musician formerly known as Cat Stevens,
has finished his first pop album since 1978's "Back
to Earth," sources tell Billboard.com. The artist
has narrowed his choice for a record label to three
companies; the as-yet-untitled set is expected to be
out by the fall.
Islam
wrote all the songs for the project, which was produced
by Rick Nowels (Dido, Rod Stewart). Sources say some selections
are highly reminiscent of Stevens' 1971 album "Teaser
& the Firecat," which sports such enduring tracks
as "Moonshadow," "Peace Train" and
"Morning Has Broken."
There's
no word yet on whether the album, which was recorded in
the United Kingdom and the United States, will come out
under the name Cat Stevens or Yusaf Islam.
The
artist, whose real name is Steven Georgiou, swore off
pop music in the late 1970s and has kept a low profile
for the better part of the last two decades. He resurfaced
in recent years to promote a variety of archival Cat Stevens
reissues.
Yusuf Islam was formally awarded a honorary doctorate
November 4, 2005 by the University of Gloucestershire.

acceptance speech.... HERE
